hair care                   Hair Care

I was nervous. The clock seemed to be ticking at three times the normal rate and I was convinced it was a conspiracy. Here I was, trying to find the right outfit and deal with makeup and hair care for a moment I had long dreamed of. I was attending my first book signing.

I have loved writing since I was a child. I remember my dad telling friends one evening that I would “do something with my writing” some day. He had faith in me all the way back then. My one regret was he was no longer alive to witness my first book signing.

As I fumbled with my hair care, my teenage daughter came over, smiled and took over. She adeptly got everything just right and even suggested what outfit to wear. I was grateful to her. It seemed for the moment our roles were reversed as I felt like a nervous teenager and she calmly took over my hair care and the rest of my attire.

It was just a simple little book that my local bookstore advertised but it meant the world to me as it was my first actual book and the article in the paper explained the history of my journey as a soldier's mom. The moment finally arrived and I sat there in the bookstore and saw friends, family and strangers approach and request an autograph. It was my Oscar moment in time and I will never forget the feeling of confidence I had in my dress, my hair care and more importantly, my family unit.
